Halloween Ghost & Mummy Chocolate Cream Filled Cupcakes

Spooky, sweet, and filled with a creamy chocolate surprise, these Halloween Chocolate Cream Filled Cupcakes are the ultimate treat for your Halloween celebrations. Chocolate cupcakes are filled with a rich whipped ganache made with Pascha 55% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chips, then transformed into adorable mummies and ghosts with vegan white frosting, candy eyes, and homemade white chocolate decorations.

Half of the cupcakes become playful mummies complete with marshmallow centers and candy eyes, while the other half are topped with homemade ghosts made from Pascha Vegan White Baking Chips. The result is a Halloween dessert that's just as fun to decorate as it is to eat.

How We Developed This Recipe

We wanted to create Halloween cupcakes that were more than just chocolate cupcakes with festive frosting. Adding a hidden center of whipped chocolate ganache makes every cupcake feel extra special while giving us another opportunity to showcase Pascha chocolate.

For the filling, hot coconut cream is poured over Pascha 55% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chips to create a simple ganache. Whipping the mixture transforms it into a smooth, creamy filling that's perfect for piping into the center of each cupcake.

Then comes the fun part: decorating.

For the mummies, a vegan marshmallow adds height beneath swirls of white frosting, while candy eyes instantly bring each character to life. For the ghosts, Pascha Vegan White Baking Chips are melted and set in a ghost-shaped chocolate mold to create edible decorations.

The result is 24 spooky cupcakes with two different designs—and plenty of chocolate inside and out.

Ingredient Breakdown

Chocolate Cupcakes

Use 24 of your favorite chocolate cupcakes as the base. Make sure they're completely cooled before filling and decorating.

Pascha 55% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chips

These dark chocolate chips are melted with coconut cream to create the rich whipped ganache hidden inside each cupcake.

Organic Heavy Coconut Cream

Coconut cream replaces traditional heavy dairy cream and gives the ganache a smooth, creamy consistency.

Pascha Vegan White Cream Cheese Icing

White frosting creates the perfect canvas for both Halloween designs. Use Pascha Vegan White Cream Cheese Icing or your favorite white vegan frosting.

Pascha Vegan White Baking Chips

Melted Vegan White Baking Chips are poured into a ghost mold to create adorable edible chocolate toppers for half of the cupcakes.

Vegan Marshmallows

Half a marshmallow underneath the frosting gives each mummy extra height and helps create its rounded shape.

Candy Eyes

A pair of candy eyes instantly transforms swirls of white frosting into spooky little mummies. Check the ingredients if you need the finished cupcakes to be completely vegan.

Black Food Coloring or Dark Chocolate

Use food coloring or a small amount of melted Pascha Dark Chocolate Chips to add faces to your white chocolate ghosts.

How to Make Halloween Chocolate Cream Filled Cupcakes

Step 1: Make the White Chocolate Ghosts

Start with the ghost decorations so they have plenty of time to set.

Melt the Pascha Vegan White Baking Chips using a double boiler, stirring gently until smooth.

Spoon or pour the melted chocolate into your ghost mold. Scrape away the excess from the top so the backs of the ghosts are relatively flat.

Transfer the mold to the refrigerator and allow the chocolate to fully set.

Step 2: Prepare the Cupcakes

Cut a small cavity approximately ½ inch wide and ½ inch deep into the center of each chocolate cupcake.

A large piping tip works well for creating even holes, but you can also carefully use a small knife.

Set the cupcakes aside while you prepare the ganache.

Step 3: Make the Chocolate Ganache

Place the Pascha 55% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chips in a heatproof bowl.

Heat the coconut cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until small bubbles begin appearing around the edges.

Pour the hot coconut cream over the chocolate chips.

Let the mixture sit undisturbed for 1 minute, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth.

Step 4: Whip & Fill

Using a stand mixer or handheld electric mixer, whip the ganache until smooth and creamy.

Transfer the whipped ganache to a piping bag.

Pipe the filling into the cavity of each cupcake.

How to Make the Mummy Cupcakes

Step 1: Add the Marshmallows

Place one marshmallow half, flat side down, over the ganache-filled center of each of 12 cupcakes.

Step 2: Pipe the Frosting

Fit a piping bag with a star tip and fill it with white frosting.

Carefully pipe around the marshmallow, building height as you work upward.

As you finish the swirl, gently swipe the piping tip downward to avoid leaving a pointed peak.

Step 3: Add the Eyes

Carefully place two candy eyes along one of the ridges in the frosting.

Repeat until you've made 12 mummy cupcakes.

How to Make the Ghost Cupcakes

Step 1: Decorate the Chocolate Ghosts

Once completely set, carefully remove the white chocolate ghosts from the mold.

If desired, paint on the eyes and mouth with black food-safe coloring.

Alternatively, melt a small amount of Pascha Dark Chocolate Chips and use a fine piping tip to create the faces. If your ghost mold has recessed spaces for the eyes and mouth, fill those areas with melted dark chocolate.

Allow the faces to set.

Step 2: Frost the Cupcakes

Fit a piping bag with a large round tip and fill it with white frosting.

Pipe a generous swirl onto each of the remaining 12 ganache-filled cupcakes.

Step 3: Add the Ghosts

Carefully place one white chocolate ghost on top of each frosted cupcake.

Repeat until you've made 12 ghost cupcakes.

Pro Tips

  • Make the white chocolate ghosts first so they have enough time to fully set.
  • Cool the cupcakes completely before filling and decorating.
  • A large piping tip makes it easy to remove an even section from the center of each cupcake.
  • Don't boil the coconut cream; heat only until small bubbles appear around the edges.
  • Give the coconut cream and chocolate a full minute to sit before stirring.
  • Make sure the white chocolate ghosts are completely firm before removing them from the mold.
  • Use melted dark chocolate instead of food coloring for an easy way to create ghost faces.
  • Keep the finished cupcakes refrigerated because of the ganache filling and frosting.
